Are the bees covered? – Beekeepers Insurance Coverage

Happy smiling woman with curly hair lounging on couch.

On the front page of AgAlerts January 20, 2021 weekly newspaper, there is an article about Caroline Yelle of Vacaville, Owner of Pope Canyon Queens, and how she lost the majority of her beekeeper business and her income to the recent Hennessey Fire. She estimates that she lost $100,000 in bees alone. This does not account for boxes, hives, materials, future income from those bees, etc…

Reading this article and knowing beekeepers insurance well, I immediately thought “Oh no, which insurance company was she with at the time of the claim?”…

Most farm insurance companies that insure beekeepers do not offer coverage for the bees. Only for the hives/boxes, materials and supplies. The good news is, there is at least one reputable carrier that does offer coverage for the bees themselves. The bad news? I find that 99% of beekeepers are insured with companies that do not offer coverage for bees.

If you are a beekeeper speak to your agent about finding a carrier that offers coverage for your bees or contact us to discuss an insurance package that will cover your bees!
